Is there a Mac utility that does low level drive integrity check and repair? - Super User
Paragon Disk Wiper for Mac allows to create a bootable USB-flash drive or external hard drive that will help you to completely erase a whole hard disk, a separate partition or just clean free space. After booting your Mac with the bootable media you will be able to use Wipe Wizard to irreversibly remove your confidential data. Paragon Disk Wiper for Mac supports all Intel-based Macs, providing the possibility to quickly and efficiently sanitize the hard disks in order to protect valuable business information and also because there is, in the most countries, a legal obligation to do so.
Irreversibly destroy all on-disk data in compliance with major national government and military data erasure standards, as well as the most comprehensive academic wipe algorithms, thus providing maximum level of security US DoD Create your own wipe algorithm with minimal effort — define up to 4 wiping patterns, number of passes for each wiping pattern and for the group of patterns, thus resulting in over possible number of passes.
Be well-informed about the results of the wipe operation to verify when wipe operations have been successfully accomplished. This should work. I was having exactly the same problem as described above; unable to reformat my 16GB USB after interrupting an "erase free space" command. The command will force a reformat--of course any data will be lost, but your drive will be usable.

I simply selected it and formatted it and voila! It mounts and works!
The only solution for me was to format this USB drive on Windows. Also, the Quick Format didn't seem to work, I had to performa a standard format who took very long. I don't understand what happened to the drive to be honest, I never had any error when formatting until now. Sometimes there's a problem with flash disk that is null name and only format corrupting data.
Other problem is flash disk that are no media. There's no solution for this removable disks. Listen now. Home Questions Tags Users Unanswered. Asked 5 years, 7 months ago. Active 1 year, 4 months ago.

Viewed k times. Did you find the answer in the end? Im having the exact same issue.. Chris Chris 7 7 silver badges 10 10 bronze badges. SeanClt same here! Anyone wanting a different format than ExFAT, you can type man diskutil in Terminal to reference the manual and find out what to type to get your desired format.
Type q to quit when done reading. There are also some other commands besides eraseVolume that might better suit your reformatting needs. Then I'm just getting "Error: Invalid argument" after 10 or so seconds of it attempting to erase. This worked for me! Select the larger one and start the erase process from there.
See if that works! That's ridiculous. Especially when the license is so incredibly inexpensive. That's no way to sell a product which is actually very good and ridiculously inexpensive. But the paid version works great. I would have given it a full five stars if not for their annoying "marketing tactics. Nice and simple to use. If I was using it commercially and formatting drive after drive, speed would probably be important to me and then certainly the paid "Uncapped" version is what I would go for.
Key Features and Benefits
Remember speed issues are very likely due to your hardware, or limitations in your chain from the software to your drive, remember it will only run and the speed of the slowest part of the chain. The software is simple to use, simply make sure your HDD is attached and launch the software, you will see your attached hard drives listed. Make sure you select the correct hard drive!
You get some nice accurate stats of percentage complete, speed and the Current sector while it is formatting so now just sit back and relax. Once its complete you will need to initialize the drive and create partitions before using. It is now fixed. I have used the tool a few times and have yet to have any complaints about it.
It can't hurt.
Small size quick download - probably does what you want if you pay for a licence but I won't test that. At first sight seemed just what I wanted, but too late I noticed the free version is crippled to run at the speed of a dead slug. In practice, useless. I should pay someone who treats me like this? Read reply 1. If I was using it commercially and formatting many drives, speed would be important to me and then certainly the paid "Uncapped" version is what I would go for. Your speed issues are not due to the software but very likely due to your hardware, or limitations in your chain from the software to your drive, remember it will only run and the speed of the slowest part of the chain.
I suggest testing the software on a different hardware setup or investigating your speed issues more thoroughly before labeling the software as "crippleware" and "Useless". The posting of advertisements, profanity, or personal attacks is prohibited.
